This is looking up at the catwalk and support structure for the elevator system in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. This picture ties together two of the pieces from the previous gallery: if you look closely here, you can see the some of the elements that cast the outlines in the “Guggenheim Shadows” images.
The larger theme here is, again, the affirmation of buildings that house artworks. The buildings must exhibit and protect and advocate, but they must also live and breathe, themselves. They have designs and characters and histories of their own. They have skin and skeletons, constitutions and expressions. They have creators, caretakers, and devotees. This is part of my ongoing tribute to these vital structures.
