This set of works is based on pictures taken in Spain in May of this year. In general, they are meant to represent concepts and convey moods, independent of time and place. There is one (tagged with “moment-in-time”), however, that documents a specific occasion and venue. Perhaps it breaks the atmosphere and flow of the gallery, but it portrays the disruption experienced as part of the journey that inspired these works, and thus the associated ambiguities and uncertainties that arise, in the abstract. I follow that one with a piece that reflects a subsequently refound tranquility, though for me it is touched with a dab of residual melancholy.
Note, this is work in process; I am still ruminating with test prints/proofs and making adjustments to individual images. I may also add or remove or re-order pieces within the collection. So please take a look, but stand by for a little while, until I have things in final form.

Santiago Dome
The serenity of his view, looking upward at the inside of the dome of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, belies the buzz and bustle down below. There is an interesting juxtaposition on the Cathedral floor of those arriving exhausted and reverent at the Cathedral after a month-long pilgrimage, profoundly moved beyond words, against the…
Guggenheim Atrium
This is looking up at the catwalk and support structure for the elevator system in the atrium of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. This picture ties together two of the pieces from the previous gallery: if you look closely here, you can see the some of the elements that cast the outlines in the “Guggenheim…
MUSAC Atrium 1
This is the first of two views into an atrium space in the lobby of MUSAC, the contemporary art museum in León, Spain. The exterior of the building is crazy-modern with color (inspired by the famous stained glass windows of the local Cathedral), but the interior is black and white, and concrete, and stark. The…
MUSAC Atrium 2
Take a few steps to the left, and this is what you see. This is the same space represented in the previous (companion) piece, but now you don’t see the light coming through the windows, but rather the reflection of that light on the opposite wall. From every angle and point of view inside, the…
Leon – May 13, 2014
There is a strange confluence of tourists and mourners (locals and dignitaries) and the media around 5:00 pm this day. The day before, a leading local politician named Isabel Carrasco was shot and killed by a rival. Shootings are rare in Spain; there is a strangeness in the air as the various players in this…
Bilbao Dusk
Even though I consider this to be a very personal picture, I feel it is meaningful to include it in the gallery. In particular, following the somber and ambivalent mood of the León picture (derived from the actual experience there), this piece returns us to a place of restfulness.
Technical Information
I am currently working with these images in a twelve by nine inch format, framed out to eighteen by twenty-two or twenty-three inches. I may adjust these dimensions as I finalize the works. Each print will be limited to an edition of three.
